GRP Flat Roof / Fibreglass Roof

A GRP Flat Roof or Fibreglass Roof as it's also know is one of the most popular flat roof solutions in the UK. GRP stands for Glass Re-inforced Polyester, a composite material formed by strengthening plastic with fine fibres and made of glass. It is very strong, light, tough and hard wearing. If looked after a GRP Flat Roof should last at least 25 years.

The Benefits of a GRP Flat Roof

  • Durable: GRP roofing systems have a reputation for their strength and durability which is one of the main reasons they are used .Once the roof is installed properly your roof will remain in place without problems for years to come.
  • Leightweight: Some materials can be too heavy for particular structures, this is where fibreglass comes into its own; not only will it offer similar levels of protection, its flexibility is ideal for complex roof shapes.
  • Seamless: As the material is in liquid form it means there are no joins or seams left on the roof surface after installation. This creates a smooth finish that other forms of roofing systems struggle to match.
  • Aesthetically Pleasing: GRP fibreglass comes in a wide range of colours which provides a great level of choice for property owners. If you have a specific colour scheme on the property you’re looking to match against, this is far more likely to be possible with GRP.

  • How do you install a GRP Roof?

First, we strip the existing roof covering and dispose of the rubbish. We then fix the moisture resistant tongue and grooved decking boards to the roof timbers and add the trims to the perimeter. Next we are ready to use the poly resin which is re-inforced with chopped strand glass matts. Once this is sealed in place we apply the resin onto the roof, then add the topcoat with rollers to give a full even coat. This gives the smooth finish and can be applied in different colours.

  • How long will a GRP Roof last?

A GRP roof is created using a resin, it is not joined (which can cause leaks at the joins). It is very strong, light, tough and hard wearing. It's UV resistance, therefore is hard wearing and lasts. If looked after a GRP Flat Roof should last at least 25 years.
